FMF/KTM Riders Top Podium at Glen Helen WORCS

Sep. 22, 2010 By Press Release
San Bernardino, CA – Both FMF/KTM riders Mike Brown and Kurt Caselli landed on the podium at the 9th round of the World Off-Road Championship Series (WORCS) held at Glen Helen Raceway with Brown taking the win and Caselli finishing a few seconds behind in 2nd position.

The two teammates got a great jump off the start line with Brown rounding the first turn in 2nd followed closely by Caselli in 3rd. Caselli quickly jumped by Brown and holeshot winner Taylor Roberts and took the lead by the third turn. On the back half of the track Roberts was able to pass back by Caselli but it was short lived as Roberts hit a rock and suffered a mechanical problem that took him from the race. The lead went back to Caselli who was being heavily pressured by Brown. A few corners later, Caselli allowed Brown to pass and take the lead. The two riders remained close together in their battle for the win.

As the race continued Brown began to pull slightly and was holding about a 10 second lead as they neared the halfway mark. An hour into the race Brown decided to pit for gas. His FMF/KTM Team did a great job getting him in and out quickly and he was able to maintain his lead. The 3rd place rider Ricky Dietrich was quickly closing in on the leaders and also decided to pit on the same lap as Brown. This allowed Caselli some breathing room as Dietrich reentered the course about five seconds behind Caselli.

The following lap Caselli came in for his pit and Dietrich passed by just as Caselli was pulling back on. The two riders entered the motocross portion of the track. Caselli had Dietrich in his sights and began to close in on him. While on the track, Caselli closed the gap on Dietrich and went in to make a pass. Unfortunately the two riders came together as they entered a turn and both riders went down. Caselli quickly jumped up and hit the electric start button on his KTM race machine and was up and going within seconds. Dietrich took a while longer after kicking his machine a few times before firing up. The quick recovery time helped Caselli put a gap on Dietrich and it also allowed Brown to further pull away out front.

The running order would remain the same through the end of the race. Brown took the win and moved to 3rd overall in the championship point standings. Caselli was able to finish 2nd and increase his points lead. The championship title will come down to the final race to be held on October 22-24, 2010 in Mesquite, NV.

Glen Helen did mark the Championship winning race for RPM/KTM Women’s Pro rider Kacy Martinez who was able to wrap up the championship one round early. Martinez won the Glen Helen race (her third win of the season) and wrapped up her title! “I am very excited to get this win. I had tough competition at Glen Helen and it was great to finish on top and take the number one plate,” remarked Martinez.

Also, finishing on the podium was KTM support rider Ivan Ramirez who finished 3rd overall in the Pro 2 class. Ramirez had a decent start and remained inside the top three for the majority of the race closing the gap on the second place rider near the end of the day. “This was my first race on the KTM. I loved the bike and felt it gave me a great advantage out here – I never felt tired and remained confident in my bike the entire day,” stated Ramirez.
