Jason Voss earned the Trick Truck win and championship at the Henderson 250.

It was a picture-perfect day in Nevada for the Best in the Desert Henderson 250. The top guns had previously established their starting positions in qualifying, with Dale Dondel starting first off the line followed by a lineup of angry racers chasing his dust. Dondel’s fortune wouldn’t last long as he went down with problem early on lap one. Picking up the slack and taking the lead in lap two was Josh Daniel in the twin-turbo Trick Truck followed closely by Shawn Croll. The pair would trade positions several times over the next lap and a half, each taking a turn leading the multi-lap race.

Josh Daniel and Shawn Croll battle for the lead on the final lap at the Henderson 250.

Coming into the third and final lap, Daniel and Croll were literally door-to-door heading out of the start/finish area. “Best racing I’ve been a part of in a long time!” Daniel said at the finish. “It would've been great if I had won.” Unfortunately for both racers the push to win caused damage to their vehicles as both acquired a flat and with it lost any chance of winning.

Eduardo Laguna earned the win in Class 1500.

Calmly cruising behind the lead two truck in third place was Jason Voss, who’s only mission was to finish the race and take home his a back-to-back championship.

Voss only needed to finish the race to wrap up his second Trick Truck title in a row, though after Croll and Daniel went down Voss was in perfect position to wrap up both the win and the title.

“We were just here to get the points and take home another Championship,” Voss said. “But we weren’t just going to give it away; we were going to make them work for it. In the end the strategy worked out for us.”

Keeping his pace, Voss drove by both Croll and Daniel as they were down with flats, not only taking the Championship but his fourth overall win in the five-race series.

Josh Daniel may have gotten a flat in his all-out battle with Shawn Croll, but he was able to rebound to finish second in class.

“We really couldn’t have had a better year,” said Voss. “Everything this year has been a dream season. The only thing that could possibly make it better would’ve been to win the Baja 500, which we came in second there. We’re really happy to be here and take home another win for everyone who helps us get to the races. I’d like to thank my family and crew for all their help and to our sponsors as well. It’s been awesome.”

The Best in the Desert car/truck season will start up again over the weekend of February 6th-8th in 2015 with the running of the legendary Bluewater Resort Parker 425.
