As stated in previous articles within this series, nearly 80% of
CRF owners primarily use their bikes for 100% off road trail
riding. Considering the fact that Honda created the CRF450 with the
sole intention of a full-race motocross weapon, many voids need to
be filled in order to make the bike viable for off road use.
The Pro Moto Billet
Kickstand
Just park the bike anywhere
with the PMB kickstand....
Last January, I had the opportunity to go on a 4
day tour of Baja, CA with Go Baja Ridin. During the trail ride, we made
several stops in the middle of nowhere to either take in the
sights, or take in some food. Typically, the stops rendered little
or no place to prop up our bikes. Luckily the XR's that we were
riding were equipped with kickstands. This fall I'll be helping out
"Go Baja Ridin" by running sweep through a few weekend tours, and
'have every intention of taking the CRF. That is where the Pro Moto
Billet kickstand falls into the scene, allowing me to easily stop
in the middle of the desert, with nothing more than desert cactus
in sight. The kickstand is mounted easily
between the left footpeg, and the frame. Simply remove the footpeg,
then line the holes of the kickstand up with the footpeg mounting
holes, and finally bolt the footpeg mount back in the stock
position.
The PMB kickstand utilizes a
hidden spring to add to safety and reliability.
The kickstand features an internal spring,
elimating the possbility of the spring being forced off by trail
debris, or any other instance (somehow, things like that actually
do happen). But how much does it space the footpeg out? Doesn't it
feel odd? The Pro Moto Billet kickstand only pushes the left
footpeg out 3/16" of a inch, and no, its barely noticeable. With a
light tap, the kickstand swings up under the left sidepanel, tucked
out of the way. It is made with all the good stuff, CNC machined
6061 billet aluminum and then clear hard-anodized.If you're looking for a way to bridge the gap
between a motocross bike, and a full off-road machine, the Pro Moto
Billet kickstand is a great option.
Spark Arrestor End
Cap
The PMB USFS approved spark
arrestor is an excellent, cost effective solution for
legality.
The summer months typically bring dry climates and
unfortunately, wild fires. While many times these out-of-control
fires are caused by nature (i.e., lightning, etc.), many times they
are caused by careless human action. We as riders, can do our part
by equiping our motorcyles with an approved spark arrestor. In
addition, many sanctioned events and riding areas require the use
of a U.S.F.S. spark arrestor. With the Honda CRF, a few options are
available. Many aftermarket slip-on mufflers are sold complete with
a spark arrestor screen, which solves the problem. But, that
typically comes with a price, and a big price at that. Most
aftermarket slip-on mufflers start around $300, let alone the
complete systems that can reach $750!
Made of 6061 billet
aluminum, the PMB Spark Arrestor End Cap is a complete kit made of
solid, top-shelf material.
The alternative? Pro Moto Billet saw this problem,
and created a Spark Arrestor End Cap for the person that needs a
U.S.F.S. approved spark arrestor on their CRF. It bolts up easily,
as it comes with nearly everything necessary to do the job, other
than a rivet-gun and drill. In roughly 20 minutes, we had our PMB
End Cap installed and ready for the "spark arrestor required"
trails. The fit was perfect, as it rivets (or the PMB End Cap can
be drilled and tapped, in order to be bolted in place) directly
into the factory location, looking as if it was OEM
equipment.

With a kickstand, there is always that
lingering thought in the back of one's mind that it might come down
somehow through a rough set of whoops...but than again, KTM's Shane
Watts races nearly any event with the flimsy OEM KTM kickstands.
Not to mention the fact that we did not experience any problems
with the Pro Moto Billet unit.
